Meet Your Tampa Bay Lactation Consultants
Mary Unangst founded Sweet Songs Breastfeeding, LLC in 2015. Prior to becoming an IBCLC, Mary served for 10 years in the United States Air Force as an Uzbek and Russian Cryptologic Linguist.
Mary holds a Bachelor of Science in Maternal Child Health and Human Lactation and is passionate about infant feeding in underserved communities and in emergency situations. She is a mother to two children and proud military spouse. When she's not busy at the breastfeeding center, Mary is pursuing her second passion of cooking!
Trish Hanning is an Arkansas native and mother of two. Her professional experience began 20 years ago in the NICU where she worked to help the most fragile of babies to breastfeed.
Trish joined Mary at Sweet Songs Breastfeeding not long after the doors opened. As a registered nurse and IBCLC, Trish brings a wealth of medical knowledge to the practice. In addition to breastfeeding, she is passionate about maternal nutritional health as it impacts infant feeding.
When she's not busy working with Tampa Bay families, you can find her busy with her own family on any number of sports fields.
Amy Hammant, an expert in the field, has been working in the maternal child health community of Tampa Bay for more than 20 years. A mother of three herself, Amy also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and has a background as a childbirth educator and birth doula.
After becoming an IBCLC in 2009, Amy began her private practice while also working many grant funded local programs. In 2016 Amy founded the Tampa Breastfeeding Center where the team is hosted today.
Amy is passionate about integrative health and wellness with an ever-present focus on evidence-based care. We are happy to have this partnership with her to better serve our breastfeeding community.
"Breastfeeding is an instinctual and natural act, but it is also an art that is learned day by day."
La Leche League
We are thrilled to offer our lactation services to the Tampa Bay area. We have extensive academic and practical experiences with identifying and developing care plans for a multitude of issues that impact the breastfeeding relationship such as weight gain concerns, identifying tongue and lip ties, induced lactation for adoptive mothers and breastfeeding after breast surgeries. We are here to work in tandem with you so you can achieve breastfeeding resolution and reach your own goals.
Breastfeeding is a journey; you don't arrive there on day one. Most moms will tell you that there were hard times, but that they were always outweighed by the tender moments. In today's world of spread out family, sometimes moms just need a helping hand to get breastfeeding under way.
Whether you need assistance at the start of your journey or anywhere else along the way, we are here to help you realize your goals on your time and in your space. We welcome you into our cozy office or we can come to you and work in the comfort of your home. See our services page for more information.
Financial hardships should not be a barrier to receiving lactation support. If there is a will, there is a way.
